Introduction
What is the worst-case scenario you believe could occur in your home’s basement? Perhaps it will flood due to pipe bursts or excessive rainfall? Alternatively, there might be a gas leak, an electrical risk, or worse, a break-in. But in the book, “The Locked Door by Freida McFadden,” Aaron Nierling was using the basement of their home to kill innocent women – for fun! Creepy/Scary, I know!
Until the day the police arrested him, his family had no idea about that.
Years later, while he is serving his entire life behind bars, his daughter, Nora, is now a successful Surgeon with a reserved personality. She changed her last name, not willing to let the world know that her father was a psychopathic serial killer.
Her life was limited and focused on her work only. She neither has any real friends nor any close relatives.
However, all of that changes when suddenly one of her young female patients is murdered in the same gruesome way that her father used to kill his victims. And when another of her young female patients gets killed in the same way, things only become worse. It turns out that Nora’s true identity isn’t hidden from everyone as she thought.
Who is doing all these murders? Is it her father? – but he is behind bars. Or someone is trying to pin it on Nora? Or is it Nora herself?
P.S. – After you finish reading this book, the scent of lavender won’t be the same for you.
Why did I pick up this Book?
So, I came across this reel summarizing the storyline and the plot of the book ‘The Locked Door by Freida McFadden,’ and I had to know the whole story. The suspense was too much to handle.
What did I like about the Book?
- From the very first page, I was on the edge. I started making my theories and suspicions from the very beginning of the story.
- I finished reading this book in a single day, so I think that says plenty about how compelling the plot was throughout, not just the beginning.
- Freida McFadden’s writing style is simple and easy to understand. So, even if you are a beginner in the Mystery Psychological Thriller and Suspense genre, you can pick it up for a read.
- The plot twist. Oh my god! It was so unexpected and not predictable right away. All of my theories and suspicions turned out to be wrong.
What did I dislike about the Book?
There was not much that I disliked about ‘The Locked Door by Freida McFadden,’ except a thing or two. And discussing it in depth would mean spoiling it for you, which is something we don’t want. Hence, let’s keep it short. As much as unexpected and good the plot twist was, it was also sudden and came out of nowhere. I wish there had been more buildup for that.
What did I learn and take away from this Book?
You never know what worse can happen in the basement of your home. Better buy or rent a house without a basement. Haha, just kidding or maybe not?
Conclusion
“The Locked Door by Freida McFadden” is a must-read book for all the Suspense and Thriller lovers. It was my first book by Freida McFadden, and I loved the book. The story has a compelling plot, simple language, an excellent cover and an outstanding plot twist. It is a wholesome Psychological Thriller that I absolutely recommend! Moreover, as I am writing this book review, I have already finished reading another book by the Author.
